New to the Glyndebourne Festival for 2018 is River Cottage they will offer innovative and ethically sourced picnics and a pop-up delicatessen for visitors to the 2018 Glyndebourne Festival. Dining is an essential part of the Glyndebourne experience, most famously the tradition of picnicking in the gardens of the opera house, an option which the River Cottage collaboration is designed to complement. Pioneering food brand River Cottage was founded in 1999 by campaigner and food writer Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and is widely admired for its commitment to seasonal, ethically produced food.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall says: ‘We are delighted to be collaborating with our friends at Glyndebourne and it’s been a real pleasure to develop our River Cottage summer menus for their guests. We are setting up a delicatessen as well as creating two fantastic seasonal picnic menus over the summer. The first of these embraces the best produce of May and June; this will be followed by a menu to reflect the bounty of July and August. Among other delights, we are serving up ham hock and hazelnut Chelsea buns, Sussex ricotta and spinach sausage rolls, potted smoked mackerel, English spelt salad packed with herbs and toasted seeds and puddings of lemon and elderflower posset and summer fruit brioche. Please join us and feast well in good conscience.'
